Skip’s Diary

The book ‘Skip’s Diary – the Village and the Lads’ is an account of 1st Farnborough Scouts and village life between 1911 and 1981, written by Harry Edwards and researched and compiled by John Tinham.

First published in 1981 it documents our Scouting journey and how the movement grew in the 20th Century. Below are excerpts from the book, which will be updated regularly.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
